October 26, 2014 – 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Whoever sacrifices to any god, save to the Lord only, shall be utterly destroyed.” – Exodus 22:20
Do you put other “gods” before God? Is your love of money, power, status or some personal possession greater than your love for God? If so, you may want to pay attention to the scripture reading because you are not going to like the outcome. The good news – it’s not too late to put God first in your life.

Goulash Festival workers are still needed. There are signup sheets at both entrances to the chapel. We are also still looking for prizes and for cakes for dessert.
Once again we will have live music provided by Joe Polach. We are also still looking for prizes, especially gift cards. Please bring anything you might have to the rectory, or call for pickup.
We are also in need of cakes for dessert.
Additional yard signs are available in church. Please take as many as you need. (And please return them after November 2.)
Word-of-mouth is the best form of advertising. Invite your friends and neighbors to join us next Sunday for this major community building and fund raising event.
This year All Saints Day falls on Saturday, November 1. It is not a Holy Day of obligation.
2nd Collection next weekend is for the Retirement Fund for Religious. Share your gratitude for the senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests who made a positive difference in so many lives.
Daylight savings time ends next Sunday, November 2. Don’t forget to set your clocks back and recover the hour of sleep you lost last spring.
A Prayer Campaign for all Priests, Deacons, Seminarians, and Consecrated Religious will begin on Monday, October 20, and end on Monday, December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
All Catholics are invited to sign a pledge to pray ten Hail Marys each day of the campaign. The completed pledges will be bound in book form and presented to the Archbishop on Saturday, December 6, at the 5:00 pm mass at the Cathedral Basilica. All are welcome to attend this mass.

Deacon Mike: Just a word this week about our upcoming Goulash Festival. If you haven’t been in a while, or if you’ve never been, you’re missing out on a good time and some very good food. Even the workers always have fun!
Please plan on coming and bring someone with you. There’s no better way to introduce someone to our community. They’ll have a chance to meet a lot of nice people (that’s you), have some fun, and to tour our historic chapel.
In addition, this is a major fund-raiser and, frankly, we need the revenue. If you notice, our collections last week were just $920.00 and $157.00 of that goes to the World Missions, leaving us with just $763.00 to cover expenses. Thankfully we had a wedding last Saturday which generated more revenue than our two masses combined.
In the coming months, we’re going to have to take a serious look at our chapel finances. But, for now, please do all you can to promote our Goulash Festival to your friends and neighbors.
On the subject of finances, we have been informed by the City that the depression in 11th Street in front of Church is being caused by our connection to the main water line. It must be repaired and it’s our responsibility. We don’t know yet how much this is going to cost, but it probably won’t be cheap. Stay tuned.
