February 26, 2017 – 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time

 

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon (material wealth).” Matthew 6:24

 

For many people, God and money run “neck and neck” as their first priority. Making money and spending money becomes the center of their life and they actually become a slave to money.  The solution – become more generous.  Giving money to Church and charity frees us from slavery to money and from making money a “god” before God.

Seminary Collection—We received a nice letter from Father Mason, President of Kenrick-Glennon Seminar thanking us for our donation to the annual Christmas collection and assuring us of the prayers of the seminarians and asking us for our prayers. Remember, these young men are the future of our Church.

 

Looking for volunteers to participate in a workday for cleanup plus another task to paint exterior trim around the north window and a dormer window on Lafayette.  Proposed date is next Saturday March 4th, beginning at 9:00 AM.  Ideally we need 4 people to support cleanup and 2 dedicated people to be on a lift to perform the painting of the windows near the top of the church.  Painting the windows is dependent on the weather and future dates will most likely be required.  Let Ron Pallman or Phil Lamczyk know of your availability.

While we’re on the subject of Lent, we will be having mass and distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday at 10:30 am. Notice the time change. Please join us.

 

There will be a collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe this Wednesday. There will also be a second collection for Black and Indian missions next weekend.

 

 

Lent is fish fry season. Please patronize our South Side neighbors. There will be a list of fish fries in the Review but to get you started, Saint Pius V has an excellent fish dinner (fried or baked) with three homemade sides and dessert for only $9.00. There will be live music. SPV is on South Grand at Utah. Remember, South City fish is the best fish.
