13th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Stewardship thought for the week

July 2, 2017 – 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“…whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.” – MATTHEW 10:38

Pope Benedict XVI said “The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort, you were made for greatness”. “Comfort” puts me first. “Picking up your cross and following Jesus” puts God and others first. Why settle for comfort when you can achieve greatness! Pick up your cross, ask Jesus for guidance on using your gifts and live the life God intended for you!

This weekend there will be a second collection for Peter’s Pence. The purpose of the Peter’s Pence Collection is to provide the Holy Father with the financial means to respond to those who are suffering as a result of war, oppression, natural disaster, and disease.

Thank you for standing in solidarity with the Holy See through your generosity.

Charity Outreach—Our neighbors at Saint Wenceslaus are collecting school supplies for Saint Francis Cabrini Academy. The school supports children from the South City area. Helpful supplies include: crayons, pens, pencils, paper and other items. There are complete lists at the entrances to the chapel. Donated supplies will be dropped off on August 7. As always, thank you for your generosity.

AUDITIONS – FOR THE YOUNG CATHOLIC MUSICIANS

The choir and orchestra of The Young Catholic Musicians are holding auditions in preparation for their 44th Year of service to the Church. These young people (aged 9-17) represent over 50 parishes and schools in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. They learn quality liturgical music and lead the music for Mass once each month at different parishes. Singers and instrumentalists (Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, and Percussion) contact Fr. Bruce Forman (314-231-7464 or revycm@charter.net) or Mrs. Mary Smith (314-962-9260 or smithycm@sbcglobal.net) for additional information and to schedule an audition. Visit our web pages at http://www.archstl.org/musicians or www.youngcatholicmusicians.com.

If you have any questions about this ministry helps talented children, please ask Deacon Mike. Two of his sons were Young Catholic Musicians.

Thank you—We received a nice Thank You note from Saint Martha’s Hall for the cereal donation. “All of us at Saint Martha’s Hall are so grateful for your kindness and compassion.”

Vacation—As you know, when you’re on vacation most of your bills just keep coming. The phone company doesn’t accept “I was on vacation” as a reason for not paying. Your church’s expenses also go on 365 days per year. In fact, our bills are usually higher in the summer. Please don’t forget us!

Many thanks to Father Bruce Forman and the parishioners of Saints Peter and Paul for hosting us for brunch last Sunday. The food was excellent and it was nice to visit with our Soulard neighbors. Hopefully this will become an annual event.

Happy Birthday, America! Tuesday we celebrate the 241st anniversary of our Declaration of Independence. In the midst of the barbecues and other fun gatherings, let’s not forget the reason for the Holiday.
